Wife of Nigeria’s President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has advised women to be ready to break barriers, so as to unleash their full potential.

Mrs Tinubu gave the advice in Lagos, while declaring open the 23rd National Women’s Conference, organised by the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO), with the theme, ”Unleash Your Potential”.

She said women have the power to shape the future, be leaders, innovators, caregivers and agents of positive change.

”But to unleash our potential fully, we must continue to break down barriers that limit our progress, challenge stereotypes, and foster an environment of equal opportunity for all.

”Education, healthcare, economic empowerment, and gender equity are essential pillars that will enable us to unleash our potential.

Tinubu, who revived COWLSO, when her husband was Lagos State Governor, praised the doggedness of women who had ensured the sustenance of the ideals of the committee.

She said that women have much potential and they need to defy the odds to contribute to national development.

The president’s wife said that women face more challenges in various endeavours, hence, urged them to be ready to seek help if they run into difficulty while working on their goals.

The Chairperson of COWLSO, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, urged women to think outside the box and be relevant in the society.

NIGER STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY TO PARTNER NGOs on GIRL CHILD EDUCATION

The Deputy Speaker, Niger State House of Assembly, Hon. Afiniki Eunice Dauda has disclosed that Niger State House of Assembly will partner with NGOs on girl child education.

She made the disclosure when she received the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Maya Care Foundation in her office at the Assembly Complex in Minna.

LINATV Correspondent Harajana Umar Ragada reported that Hon.Afiniki assured the CEO of Maya Care Foundation and her team of the 10th Assembly’s Legislative Support and collaboration in the areas of improving Girl Child Education and out-of-school Children in the State.

In her remarks, the CEO and Founder of Maya Care Foundation, Hajiya, Safiya Abdulmumuni, Congratulated the Deputy Speaker and Members of the 10th Assembly for their successful inauguration and used the opportunity to inform the Deputy Speaker that Maya Care Foundation is a non-governmental organization that is particular about Children and out of school Children especially, girls.

The Founder further explained that their major focus is to pick them up from the street and send them back to school by giving them quality Education, Conducive environment and learning materials.

She also said that the foundation has been to some states in Nigeria, adding that the foundation has also carried out a Women empowerment program as well as supporting a school in Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State.

She further stated that the foundation is having an annual Programme every September when schools resume and this particular year they would be holding it in Niger State.

NIGER STATE GOVERNMENT ROLLS OUT MEASURES FOR THE DISTRIBUTION OF N5.25 BILLION WORTH OF PALLIATIVES.

*** DECLARES THREE DAYS PUBLIC HOLIDAY FOR DISTRIBUTION

Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago has declared Wednesday, Thursday and Friday next week as public holidays to allow for the effective distribution of palliatives to residents across all the 25 Local Government Areas of the State.

The Governor in a maiden Press Conference held at the Government House Minna explained that the state government augmented N250 million to the N5 billion palliative given to the state.

Below are the highlights of the modalities adopted for distribution:

N2 billion cash received so far from the Federal government.

All the Wards in Suleja, Chanchaga, Bida and Kontagora Local Governments are to have N20 million per ward.

All the Wards in the remaining 21 Local Government Areas of the State will get 10 million Naira each.

Traditional Institutions to get N80 million.

Internally Displaced Persons to get N75 million.

Logistics and Organized Labour, to gulp N110 million

Political parties to get N150 million.

All the money is to hit the Local Government council Account by Monday next week.

the cash will be injected into the local markets in the state.

Five trucks of Rice will be distributed to each Ward of the 25 Local Government Areas.

40,000 bags of Maize is still anticipated from the Federal government and the state government will add 10,000 bags to make it 50,000 bags for distribution to all the polling units across the state.

The palliatives are not free as the State and Local Governments will pay back 58% of the N5 billion in 20 months while the Federal government will take 42%.

Local Government and Ward Committees are to decide what food items to buy depending on the needs of their people.

Standing Committees comprising Former and serving public office holders are to ensure effective and efficient distribution of the palliatives in their respective Constituencies.

Also to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal, Governor Umaru Bago disclosed that some steps taken by the state government to ease movement of goods and services .

200 CNG Luxurious Buses will be made available to provide free public transportation to all students and pupils in public schools.

Civil Servant will also benefit at a discounted rate .

100 of the Buses are to ply the Suleja to Abuja axis.

50 Buses to ply Minna and 50 to other Local Government Areas.

On Agriculture,
Directives have been given to the Ministries of Lands and Agriculture to provide 10,000 hectares of arable land in every Local Government.

By December 2023, 250,000 arable lands should be cleared to boost national policy on food security.

Farm Machinery to be provided

500,000 youths are to be employed in the pilot scheme in Agricultural activities.

400,000 women are to be employed as pickers of Shea nuts.

On Education;
Payment of bursary to students is to be revived.

Governor Umaru Bago used the medium to appeal to Nigerlites to be patient as his administration remains committed to serving them better.

He however warned that anyone who is found wanting in the distribution of the palliatives will be jailed to serve as a deterrent to others.

Commissioner Pledges to make MSMEs a Gold Mine of Niger Economy

The Niger state Commissioner for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Mrs Elizabeth Shaba has pledged to make micro, small and medium enterprises in the state a goldmine of the state’s economy.

Speaking during her resumption of office in Minna, the Commissioner said that the Ministry has the ability to improve on the economy of the state as MSMEs are the lifewire of the economy.

According to her, all hands need to be on deck stating that she intends to take action towards ensuring that businesses that have crippled in the state are revived back.

“We must not leave the ministry the way we met it. We will make maximum use of what we have and ensure that the ministry becomes a goldmine of Niger state economy.”

Shaba explained that the Ministry was formerly an Agency but due to its viability to the economy of the state, the Governor decided to upgrade it to a Ministry.

She warned the staff against lukewarmness to work and not being punctual stating that no staff found engaging in activities that would set the Ministry backward will be tolerated.

The Permanent Secretary overseeing the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Dr Joseph Kolo who welcomed the Commissioner said that the mandate of improving MSMEs in the state which was being implemented before would be incorporated into the mandate of the new Ministry.

The Staff assured the Commissioner of their maximum support and their willingness to move the ministry forward adding that they would walk together and offer the necessary guidance.

SPORTS: AMUSAN BREEZES INTO FINAL

World champion and record holder in women’s 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan, is one race away from successfully defending the title she won in 2022 after easing into the final of the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary on Wednesday.

She clocked a time of 12.56secs to win the second semi-final and take one of the automatic spots in the final, which comes up in the evening session on Thursday (today).

Like she did in the heats on Tuesday, Amusan picked up slowly from the starting block and crossed the line ahead of Jamaica’s Ackera Nugent, who picked the second qualifying spot in the race in a time 12.60secs.

Amusan’s 12.56 is the eight best qualifying time for the final.

The 26-year-old will now return for the heavyweight final today, when she will line up against American former world record holder Kendra Harrison, who leads the pack with 12.33secs from the first semi-final and Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, who posted 12.41secs to win the last semi-final.

At last year’s championships in Oregon, Amusan made history as Nigeria’s first-ever world champion and record holder, setting the current world record 12.12secs in the semi-final. She returned in the final in 12.06secs but it didn’t stand as it was wind-assisted.

After enjoying a steady start to her preparation for this year’s championship, running a season’s best of 12.34secs at a Dia mold League meeting in July, she was hit by a provisional suspension by the Athletics Integrity Unit for three whereabout failures in 12 months.

Relief, however, came two days before Budapest 2023, after a panel of the Disciplinary Tribunal, by majority decision, found her not guilty of an Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) of three whereabouts failures within a 12-month period.

Niger State Governor, Rt. Hon. Mohammed Umaru Bago has approved the appointment of 131 women into various political positions.

This is in fulfilment of his promise to carry women along in his administration.

The appointments are for the position of Coordinators and Senior Special Assistants (SSA’s).

Out of the 131 appointments, 41 are Coordinators while 90 are SSA’s.

while congratulating them, the Governor
called on them to be dedicated and contribute their quota to the success of his administration’s policy thrusts.

CHRISTIAN YOUTHS COMMEND GOV BAGO FOR APPOINTING FORMER CPS AS SPECIAL ADVISER

Youths under the auspices of All Progressives Congress (APC) Christian Youths of Niger state have commended Governor Umar Bago for appointing former Chief Press Secretary, Mary Noel Berje as Special Adviser.

While congratulating the newly appointed Special Adviser on women and Affirmative Action, the group urged her to continuously work towards a brighter future for women in the state.

In a congratulatory message, Secretary General APC Christian Youths, Joseph Gbanban Tsado stated the association is convinced that the appointee’s wisdom, vision and passion will greatly contribute to the advancement of women’s right and equality in the state.

According to Tsado, “Mary Noel Berje’s appointment is not just in recognition of her dedication and capabilities but an evidence of her commitments to positive changes and empowerment of women in the state.”

Best Breastfed baby Emerges in Niger state

Four months old Fatima Abdulkarim has emerged as the best breastfed baby in Niger state in a breastfeeding competition organized by the Niger State Ministry of Health.

Abdulkarim was announced on Thursday during the flag-off of the 2023 World Breastfeeding Week by the Wife of the Niger state Governor, Hajiya Fatima Umar Bago.

Abdulkarim was said to have gotten 32.5 points out of 36 beating 10 other babies who participated in the competition.

Baby Salihu Ibrahim emerged second while Baby Musa Yusuf emerged third in the competition.

The Niger state Chairperson of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM), Anna Simon said that the criteria used include age as all the babies in the competition were within the age range of four months, weight, immunization status, state of hair, eyes and palm and the alertness of the babies.

She explained that three judges carefully screened the babies and gave them scores on each criterion.

The Wife of the Niger state Governor, Hajiya Fatima Umar Bago commended the Ministry for the initiative saying that it would encourage women to breastfeed their children and improve exclusive breastfeeding in the state.

She said that breastfeeding would reduce the burden of malnutrition and child-killer diseases calling for the government and employers of labor to make workplaces breastfeeding-friendly in terms of infrastructure and policy drive.

Bago said she would begin advocating for the implementation of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of a baby’s life, continued breastfeeding with appropriate complementary food for up to two years and beyond, and extension of maternity leave from three months to six months.

She then stressed that infant formula is not equivalent to breast milk adding that women should not be embarrassed about breastfeeding in public places.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr Mohammed Gana urged that academic pursuit or employment should not intervene with women exclusively breastfeeding their babies adding that it would save them from malnutrition and other child-killer diseases.
