LINA TV NEWS: NIGER GOVERNMENT ESTABLISHES FOOD PROCESSING COMPANY

Niger State Government has restated its commitment to boost food production in the State through the establishment of a Food Processing Company.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Abubakar Usman disclosed this at the stakeholders meeting on Bobi Grazing Reserve held in his Office.

Alhaji Usman revealed that the setting up of the Company would unlock the immense potential of the Livestock industry, attract investments, and promote job creation in the State.

According to the SSG, “the Food Processing Company will aggregate; process and package farm produce to create business activities, boost farming and improve food security”.

He further explained that the present administration’s commitment to Agriculture is very strategic knowing fully that the sector is the only sure way for food security, employment generation, and raw materials for industrialization, hence the need for the Government to reach out to every opportunity in order to achieve the set objectives and goals.

The SSG reiterated that the Government is committed to actualizing Bobi Grazing Reserve located in Mariga and Mashegu Local Government Areas of the State despite Bandits incursion.

Alhaji Usman assured the Government’s commitment and determination to put in place high-level security measures that will safeguard the Reserve and private sector investments.

The SSG received updates from the Consultant of the Reserve who is also the Emir of Muri, Alhaji Abbas Tafida, Officials from CBN, Friesland Campina Wamco, Chi Limited, Hail Consortium, Neon Dairies Plc, and Iris Dairies.

Wife of Nigeria’s President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has advised women to be ready to break barriers, so as to unleash their full potential.

Mrs Tinubu gave the advice in Lagos, while declaring open the 23rd National Women’s Conference, organised by the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO), with the theme, ”Unleash Your Potential”.

She said women have the power to shape the future, be leaders, innovators, caregivers and agents of positive change.

”But to unleash our potential fully, we must continue to break down barriers that limit our progress, challenge stereotypes, and foster an environment of equal opportunity for all.

”Education, healthcare, economic empowerment, and gender equity are essential pillars that will enable us to unleash our potential.

Tinubu, who revived COWLSO, when her husband was Lagos State Governor, praised the doggedness of women who had ensured the sustenance of the ideals of the committee.

She said that women have much potential and they need to defy the odds to contribute to national development.

The president’s wife said that women face more challenges in various endeavours, hence, urged them to be ready to seek help if they run into difficulty while working on their goals.

The Chairperson of COWLSO, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, urged women to think outside the box and be relevant in the society.

LINA TV NEWS: MINOR RESHUFFLE IN SENATE: ASHIRU REPLACES UMAHJ AS DEPUTY LEADER AS NWEBONYI TAKES OVER DEPUTY WHIP POSITION

There was a minor reshuffle in the Senate leadership on Wednesday, as the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, announced Senator Ashiru Oyelola Yisa as the new Deputy Leader of the Senate.

Senator Akpabio also announced the Senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi, as the Deputy Whip of the 10th Senate.

Ashiru replaced Senator David Umahi, who briefly served as the Deputy Leader of the Senate, before he was appointed as the Minister of Works by President Bola Tinubu.

Senator Ashiru, who represents Kwara South Senatorial District, is a ranking member of the apex legislative Chamber, having served in the Ninth Assembly.

On the other hand, Senator Nwebonyi, who is a first timer in the Senate, is the Deputy Chairman, Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Senate as well as a member of a number of other Standing Committees of the Senate.

LINATV NEWS PRESIDENT TINUBU PULLS FCTA OUT OF TSA… EMPOWERS WIKE TO GENERATE IGR

As part of plans to effectively pave way for the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to utilize the territory internally generated revenue (IGR) for the development of the nation’s capital, President Bola Tinubu has pulled the FCTA out of the Treasury Single Account (TSA).

It should be noted that, the TSA, a Federal Government policy that requires all government revenue to be deposited into a single account, was introduced in 2015 to improve transparency and accountability in government finances.

In line with the TSA, all revenue receipts, and all payments by government, go through a Consolidated Revenue Account, CRA, at the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.

The action according to President Tinubu would allow the FCTA under the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike to use the territory’s Internally Generated Revenue IGR for the development of the nation’s capital.

Speaking during a news conference on Friday, Wike also disclosed that the President has approved the creation of the FCT Civil Service Commission.

This he said would allow the progression of staff of the FCT Administration.

Findings have it that, the removal of the FCTA from the TSA as well as the creation of the nation’s capital Civil Service Commission, would give Wike additional powers as a Minister.

Lina TV gathered that Civil servants in the territory had complained of the effects of the absence of such Commission for their career progression.

The Speaker Niger State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abdulmalik Muhammed Sarkin Daji, has applauded the efforts and contributions of Nigeria Teachers in Nation building.

He disclosed this during this year’s World Teachers Day Celebration organized by the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Niger State Wing.

The Speaker expressed appreciation to the Nigeria Union of Teachers on the auspicious occasion of World Teachers day celebration.

Bar. Abdulmalik assured them that the 10th Assembly will continue to legislate on laws that will have direct benefit to Niger lites to compliment the efforts of the present Administration’s policies in providing and improving Education in the State.

He further added that the assembly with continue to synergize and support the Teachers with necessary legislations that will improve the Educational sector of the State.

Accusing Vice-President Kashim Shettima of APC Double Nomination

The Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Abuja has struck out the suit filed by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) accusing Vice-President Kashim Shettima of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of double nomination in the 2023 general elections.

The Chairman of the panel, Justice Haruna Tsammani, who read the lead judgement, held that an invalid nomination or double nomination did not qualify as a ground for disqualification in respect of the presidential election as provided in sections 131 and 137 of the constitution.

He also held that Mr Ibrahim Masari, who was nominated as a placeholder by the APC (for the position of the Vice President), was not a necessary party to the petition because he was neither a candidate nor did he win the election.

GOVERNOR UMARU BAGO WARNS STANDING COMMITTEES NOT TO SHARE CASH AS PALLIATIVE

Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago has warned the Standing Committees in all the 25 Local Government areas not to share money as palliative to the people.

The Governor in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, said the money given to all the local government councils is to be used to procure grains and other food items not to be shared.

He said the choice of food items to be procured is to be determined by the stakeholders in each of the local government areas in addition to the rice and maize that will have been provided.

The Governor emphasized that any standing committee that shares cash will be sanctioned.

Governor Umaru Bago has rolled out some modalities for the distribution of fuel subsidy palliatives which will last for three days from tomorrow the 6th of September, 2023.

Gov. Bago declares 3 days holiday for distribution of Palliatives

The Governor of Niger state Rt. Hon. Umar Bago has declared a three day public holiday to enable the state share over five billion naira and other food items as palliative across the 25 local government areas of the State.

He said at a Press briefing in government House that the State has gotten only N2billion cash, five trucks of rice from the federal government.

He said “to enable everyone benefit from the palliative, I declare next week Wednesday, Thursday and Friday as work free days”.

The Governor disclosed that forty thousand bags of maize are being expected from the Federal Government.

Furthermore, he announced that former Presidents which include Former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, former Governors of Niger, Muazu Babangida Aliyu and Abubakar Sani Bello among others are automatic members of the palliative standing committee.

He directed all political appointees Permanent Secretaries and Local Government Councils Chairmen who are members of the standing Committee set up by the state government to return to their wards for the distribution of the Palliatives.

According to him “all former Presidents, former Governors and their Deputies, former SSGs, former National and State lawmakers, traditional rulers, pensioners, members of all political parties are automatic members of the standing Committee.

Responding to fears that the Palliatives may be diverted, Governor Bago warned that anyone no matter how highly placed found to be involved in the diversion of palliative will be jailed.

The Governor further explained that N3.2 will be disbursed to the 25 LGAs account by Monday saying that N5.2billion will be injected into local markets by next week which would help to force the prices of food items to crashed.

NIGER ASSEMBLY INAUGURATES HOUSE STANDING COMMITTEE ON LABOUR AND PRODUCTIVITY

Niger State House of Assembly has recently taken a significant step in prioritizing labor and productivity issues within the state by inaugurating the House Standing Committee on Labour and Productivity. This move is aimed at addressing the challenges faced by both workers and employers, ensuring improved working conditions, promoting job creation, and enhancing productivity across various sectors.

Lina TV correspondent Harajana Umar Ragada reports that the ceremony, which took place at the State House of Assembly complex on Friday 1st September 2023, was attended by key stakeholders including legislators, government officials, and labor unions.

The event was presided over by the Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Speaker Rt Hon. Barr. Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin Daji, Represented by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Afiniki Eunice Dauda, who emphasized the importance of labor and productivity in driving socio-economic development and improving the lives of Niger State residents.

The Niger State Head of Service Engr. Abubakar Y. Salisu stated that the office of the Head of Service will do all it takes to support the movement and struggles of all civil servants in Niger State.

Members of the committee include Hon. Murtala Adamu Badaru (Chairman), Hon. Musa Idris Vatsa (Vice Chairman), Hon. Yakubu Abdulmalik Bala (Member), Hon. Haruna Muhd Alhaji (Member), Hon. Sani Umar (Member), Hon. Bako Bello Alhaji (Member), and Hon. Idris Muhd Isah (Member).

Hon. Murtala Adamu Badaru, the chairman of the committee charged all civil servants and unions that are under the committee to give them the maximum cooperation to change the narrative to a better one. He added that they are aiming at seeing that there are no issues of pension and gratuity in Niger State.

In an interview with Lina TV, the Niger State NLC Chairman Comrade Idris Abdulkarim Lafene disclosed that they are doing everything possible to make sure that backlogs for gratuity are being paid accordingly.

Niger State House of Assembly speaker urges collaboration between the Ministry of Health and the House of Assembly to enhance health and nutrition in the state.

He made the call during the inauguration ceremony of the House Standing Committee on Health and Nutrition, at the assembly complex on Thursday 31st August, 2023.

Lina TV correspondent Harajana Umar Ragada reports that During his address,The Speaker Rt Hon. Barr. Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin Daji, Represented by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Afiniki Eunice Dauda, emphasized the need for synergy, stating that cooperation between the Ministry of Health and the House of Assembly is essential to develop effective healthcare policies and strategies, allocate appropriate resources, and oversee the implementation of health programs in the state.

Hon. Afiniki also urged the newly inaugurated House Standing Committee on Health and Nutrition to diligently perform their duties by conducting robust oversight of the Ministry of Health’s activities.

Members of the committee include Hon. Umar Nasir Paiko (Chairman), Hon. Ndagi Zakari (Vice Chairman), Hon. Sheshi Abdullahi Wushishi (Member), Hon. Isah Abdullahi (Member), Hon. Muhammad Gado Nasko Abdulazeez (Member), Hon. Suleiman Wanchiko (Member) and Hon. Mohammed Ahmed (Member).

The commissioner Ministry for Secondary and Tertiary Health, Hon. Bello Tukur assured the speaker that the ministry would work hand in hand with the House to deliver better and quality health services to the people of Niger State.

In an interview with Lina TV, the chairman of the committee Hon. Umar Nasiru reiterated that the committee would do their best to deliver their mandate, while also calling on the State Government to reactivate automatic employment to curtail the issue of shortage of staff in our hospitals.
