The National Examination Council (NECO) has on Tuesday released the results of the 2023 Senior School Certificate Examinations (SSCE) internals.

While addressing newsmen at the Council’s Headquarters in Minna, the Council Registrar, Prof Dantana Wushishi, said 737,308 candidates, representing 61.60 per cent, made five credits, including Mathematics and English Language.

Prof. Wushishi said of the 1,205,888 candidates that registered for the examination, only 1,196,985 sat for it, adding that of the total candidates that sat for the examination, 616,398 were males and 580,587 females.

He also disclosed that the number of candidates who made five credits and above irrespective of English Language and Mathematics is 1,013,611 representing 84.60 per cent.

The Registrar said, “the number of candidates involved in various forms of malpractice in 2023 is 12,030 representing 0.07 per cent as against 2022 of 13,594, representing 0.13 per cent cases recorded in 2022”.

Furthermore, he disclosed that the number of candidates with special needs is 1,542 with 913 with hearing impairment, 162 with visual impairment, 103 with albinism, 61 with autism, 149 with low vision and 154 with adermatoglyphia (that is, candidates with no fingerprints).

While reeling out the performance analysis by states, Prof. Wushishi said Candidates from Abia State led other states as they scored five credits and above including Mathematics and English language making 85.53 percent. The state also leads in candidates with five credits and above irrespective of Mathematics and English language 95.50 percent.

For least performed States with five credits and above including mathematics and English language, Zamfara state is bottom on the table with 39.10 percent with just 7.77 percent ahead of Niger which came second to least with 46.87 percent.

While formally declaring the release of the results, he said 93 schools were found to have been involved in whole school (Mass) cheating and 52 supervisors recommended for blacklisting due to poor supervision, aiding and abetting during the examination.

Niger State Government has commended members of LLB class of 2009 for celebrating the Speaker of 10th Niger State House of Assembly,Hon.Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin Daji who is also LLB class of 2009 of Usman Danfodio University,Sokoto.

Deputy Governor,Comrade Yakubu Garba,who made the commendation said Hon.Sarkin Daji is who one of the good ambassadors of LLB Class of 2009,described the Speaker as one of the most successful politicians in Niger State.

Comrade Garba noted that the Hon.Abdulmalik was one time Council Chairman of Mariga Local Government Area,Commissioner and presently member of Niger State House of Assembly, who also doubles as the Speaker of the House.

He urged the Speaker to continue with the good job he has been doing for the people of the State and assured him of the Executive Arm of Government’s unflinching support to the Legislative Arm for the socio-economic development of the State.

Earlier,the Speaker, Niger State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abdulmalik Muhammed Sarkin Daji has commended LLB Class of 2009 of Usman Danfodiyo University, Sokoto for identifying and felicitating with him on his emergence as the Speaker of the 10th Assembly.

The Speaker appreciated his colleagues for finding time to come to Minna.

Hon.Malik had lauded his colleagues too for the successes they have recorded in there various places of work and prayed for the Almighty Allah guidance in their endeavours

The Chairman LLB UDUS, Class of 2009, Justice Atiku Abubakar, disclosed that the LLB UDUS Class of 2009 are formidable group of people with shared passion of hope and aspirations and have done well in there various places of responsibility.

Atiku Abubakar, appreciated the Government and people of Niger State for supporting and choosing one of their own as the Speaker of the 10th Niger State House of Assembly.

National Universities Commission Granted Approval for the Take Off of Niger State University of Education as the 270th University in the country

The National Universities Commission(NUC), has approved the takeoff of Niger State University of Education, which is the 270th University in the country.

The approval letter was formally presented to Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago by the Acting Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), at the Commission’s Head Office in Abuja.

Shortly after receiving the letter of approval, Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago expressed gratitude to the NUC for the reactivation and approval of a process that started over a decade ago.

The Governor observed that there is a deficit in Educational facilities hence, his administration is desirous of making Niger State “the Massachusett of Nigeria”.

Bago assured that funding the University will not be a problem as an Education Trust Fund law is already in place mandating 1% of every State Government contract to go into the Trust Fund.

Governor Umaru Bago also used the opportunity to appeal to the NUC to expedite the approval of Medicine in the Ibrahim Babangida University Lapai for the full take-off of Medical courses in the institution.

The governor also said that he is confident that the upgrade of the Federal College of Education Kontagora to a University of Education signed by the Buhari administration will soon come to fruition.

Worried by the volume of graduates without vocational skills despite the limitless opportunities for white-collar jobs, the Governor stressed that his administration will change the narrative by establishing a hub for vocational training

The Acting Executive Secretary (E.S), of NUC, Mr Chris Mayaki congratulated the Niger State Government under the leadership of Governor Umaru Bago for revalidating and completing the process of establishing the State University of Education.

While pledging the full support of the NUC, the Acting E.S called on the State Government to utilize the advisory role of the Commission for professional and technical advice needed for sustainable funding and operation of the University

The idea of converting the State College of Education to the University of Education was conceived by the Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu Administration in 2013, it was recognised as a duly established University in the Nigerian University System by the NUC on the 8 of May 2015.

However, the present administration led by Umaru Bago, on the 20th of August 2023 wrote for the revalidation of the process and completed it by presenting all relevant documents.

The State University of Education is now enlisted as the 270th University in Nigeria with effect from 28th September 2023. And this makes it the 2nd State Owned University.

Plan Concluded for the Recruitment of Christian Religious Knowledge (CRK) Teachers – Niger State Govt

The Niger State Government says plans have been concluded for the recruitment of Christian Religious Knowledge (CRK) teachers in all public schools across the state.

The state Governor Hon. Mohammed Umar Bago also disclosed this at the biennial convention of the North Central zone of Women Wing Christian Association of Nigeria (WOWICAN) in Minna.

Governor Bago who was represented by Jonathan Vatsa said religious studies in schools is one of the best ways to help arrest social vices in the society.

According to him “the government has concluded arrangements to recruit CRK teachers across the state. We have asked the leadership of CAN in the state to come up with modalities because we want the best for our children.

“We all know that religious teachings in schools can help to reshape the lives of our children. We are faced with drug abuse, youth restiveness, thuggery and other social vices.”

The governor decried the increasing level of drug abuse among youths, adding that women need to do more to nurture and guide their children/wards against drug abuse so that they can become useful members of the society.

He maintained that the state government have decided to partner with the Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria, (PCN) to combat the menace in the state.

Earlier in her remarks, the State Chairperson WOWICAN, Deaconess Deborah Gana said, despite the challenging economy, the Niger state chapter of WOWICAN was able to visit sick persons in the Hospitals, mothers who just gave birth and even to those who lost their babies.

In a bid to foster a stronger partnership between the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education and the Media , Niger State Commissioner of Baisc and Secondary Education, Dr. Hadiza Asabe Mohammed, received a courtesy visit from Power FM Bida, today.

The team which was led by the General Manager, Mal. Abulrasheed Abdulkareem said the visit was to congratulate the Commissioner on her well deserved appointment and to discuss possible areas of collaboration with the Ministry.

Mal Abdulrasheed pledged to increase their support for the Education sector by providing accurate and timely information to people at the grassroots.

He promised to highlight all the achievements of the Education sector through their platform by keeping the public abreast of the latest developments in the sector.

In her remark, the Commissioner expressed her appreciation for the visit and emphasized the importance of the media in promoting Education and highlighting the achievements of the Education sector.

She assured of her continues collaboration with the Radio Station and urged them to continue to support the Education sector by providing accurate information to the public and highlighting the achievements of the sector.

The courtesy visit was a positive step towards promoting collaboration between the Ministry and the Radio Station, and it is hoped that it will lead to more fruitful partnerships in the future.

NIGER COMMISSIONER OF EDUCATION EMBARKS ON COMPREHENSIVE ASSESSMENT TOUR OF SCHOOLS.

In a bid to gain firsthand knowledge of the state of education in the State, Niger State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Hadiza Asabe Mohammed led the Central Working Group (CWG) on a comprehensive on the spot assessment tour of Schools within the State.

The tour, is coming less than Five days after the Central Working Group (CWG)
was set up and it is aimed at evaluating the existing infrastructure and overall quality of education being provided in Schools.

The Commissioner, who is the Chairman of CWG, showed her commitment to improving the education system by visiting various Primary and Secondary Schools across the State and the visit provided the opportunity for her to interact with Principals, Teachers, and School administrators, as well as gauge the challenges in the education sector.

The Schools visited are, Abubakar Dada Secondary School, Paiko, UK Bello Primary School, Paiko, Hill Top Model School Minna, Maryam Babangida Girls Science College, Ahmadu Bahago Secondary School, IBB Primary School, Limawa Primary and Secondary School, Father O’Connell Science College and Government Girls Secondary School, Old Airport, Minna.

Others are, Government College Bida, Government Girls Science College, Bida,Government Technical College, Bida, Ndazabo LEA Nursery and Primary School, Bida, Ndayako Nursery and Primary School Bida and Umar Sanda Nursery, Primary and JSS, Bida, respectively.

She emphasized the importance of quality education and expressed the commitment of the RT. Hon. Umar Mohammad Bago’s led administration to addressing any shortcomings identified.

The Commissioner stressed the need for a comprehensive approach that focuses on improving infrastructure, enhancing Teaching techniques, and ensuring the availability of necessary resources.

The assessment included evaluating the physical condition of school buildings, the availability and functionality of facilities such as libraries, laboratories, and computer rooms among others.

Dr. Hadiza Asabe Mohammed, thereafter expressed the readiness of the Ministry to collaborate with relevant stakeholders including , non-governmental organizations, and the private sector, to address these needs and provide a conducive learning environment for Students.

At the end of the comprehensive assessment tour, the CWG will make a comprehensive report that will be presented to the Executive Governor by the Hon. Commissioner as a roadmap for educational development of the state through meticulous implementation.

Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago was received by the Moroccan Ambassador to Nigeria, Moha Ou Ali Tagma at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco, Abuja, in his determination to ensure a remarkable development of the state.

The visit was necessary, considering the fact that the Kingdom of Morocco has made significant advancements in agricultural technology and practices, hence Governor Umaru Bago noted that collaboration in this sector can help improve agricultural productivity, promote sustainable farming methods and enhance food security in the state.

The Governor believes that the partnership will also help in the area of education and health thereby promoting educational exchanges and cultural programmes to foster understanding, knowledge sharing and human capital development as well as share experiences in healthcare delivery, medical training and disease prevention.

Other areas that the partnership will mutually benefit both parties are energy and railway transport with a view to fast-tracking the growth and development of the state.

The strong foundation about to be created between Niger State and the Kingdom of Morocco would bring about a sustainable growth, knowledge sharing and improved quality of life for their respective populations.

The Moroccan Ambassador to Nigeria Moha Ou Ali Tagma expressed delight for the visit and advocated the need for the Governor and some key government officials to pay an official visit to the Kingdom of Morocco for first hand information about the development of various spheres of its economy.

He commended Governor Umaru Bago for his efforts and pledged the support of the Kingdom of Morocco to Niger state.

KONTAGORA EMIRATE COUNCIL COMMENDS PROFESSOR FARUK RASHID HARUNA FOR GIANT STRIDES IN THE COLLEGE

The Provost, Professor Faruk Rashid Haruna, has, ones again, been commended for the giant strides in the College. The commendation was contained in a letter presented to him by the Secretary of the Kontagora Emirate Council, Alhaji Samaila Fodio, who is also the District Head of Babban Rami. The letter was dated 9th August, 2023.

While presenting the letter to the Provost in his office, Alhaji Samaila Fodio noted that His Royal Highness, the Sarkin Sudan of Kontagora, Alhaji Muhammadu Barau Mu’azu, and his Council conveyed their commendation to the Provost for his numerous achievements in the College and noted that the Emirate was proud of the Provost.

The Emirate Council commended Professor Faruk’s focus and visionary leadership, affirming that the College had never had it better as it is since the assumption of office of the Provost. The Emirate Council saluted the Provost’s courage, wisdom and utilisation of strength and opportunities available for the development of Federal College of Education, Kontagora.

The Emirate Council noted that the new structures in the College, such as new lecture halls, laboratories, staff offices, improved students’ hostels, solar powered-light, new boreholes and other facilities speak volumes of the prowess of the Provost. The council said that academic standard of the College has improved significantly as students are well taught in a conducive and serene environment.

Finally, His Royal Highness, on behalf of his Cabinet, urged the Provost to sustain the tempo of good work and continue to do his best in transforming the Federal College of Education Kontagora into a cynosure of other Colleges of Education in Nigeria.
