Niger State House of Assembly Inaugurates House Standing Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs

In a move to strengthen governance and enhance effective grassroots administration, the Niger State House of Assembly has officially inaugurated the House Standing Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs at The Assembly Complex on Wednesday 30th August, 2023.

The inauguration of this committee came about as a response to the growing need for improved coordination and oversight within local government and chieftaincy affairs.

Lina TV correspondent Harajana Umar Ragada reports that During his address,The Speaker Niger State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Barr. Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin Daji, Represented by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Afiniki Eunice Dauda emphasized the importance of the committee, as it is the grassroot and it directly connects with the people of the communities.

She also called on the ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy affairs not to look at the legislatures as people that are there to witch-hunt them, but as people who checkmate and balance activities for the development of Niger State at large.
Hon. Afiniki called for synergy, cooperation and collaboration between the House and MDAs to foster desired development.

Members of the committee include Hon. Bako Bello Alhaji(Chairman), Hon. Haruna Muhd Alhaji(Vice Chairman), Hon. Murtala Adamu Badaru(Member), Hon. Suleiman Abubakar Gomna(Member), Hon. Muhd Isah Etsuagaie (Member), Hon. Muhd Garba Agwara(Member), and Hon. Alhassan Isah (Member).

In his goodwill message, the commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy affairs, Hon. Mu’azu Hamidu Jantabo who was represented by the DG Chieftaincy affairs, Danladi Umar promised an unflinching and continues harmony and synergy between the ministry and the House .

In an interview with Lina TV, the chairman of the committee Hon. Bako Bello Alhaji reiterated that they are aware of the enormous task ahead of them and assured the house that they would do their best to deliver their mandate as expected of them.
