Mob Burn Suspected Kidnapper to Death in Niger

An angry mob took law into their hands as they burned a middle age Hausa man to death suspected to have kidnapped some children from Lapai local government area of Niger state.

Online Media gathered that the suspect who was simply identified as Suleiman, was accused of attempting to abduct a seven years old boy, rising tensions in the community over the children safety.

According to the father of the intended victim, Usman Bamungoro, the ugly incident happened when his sons, Abba and Mudasir, were sent on an errand to purchased vegetables from their family’s residence around 9:30 in the morning.

According to him, the children usually took a path that led near the Lapai cemetery because is a shorter pathway.

However, their journey this time around took an unexpected turn when Mudasir realised his brother Abba was missing.

Mudasir discovered his brother in the hand of a another man, whom he described as mentally unstable, holding a bag and a cutlass.

Alarmed by the sight, Mudasir ran back to the family house to alert his people and his family members. The Father, Usman Bamungoro, along with a group of people, rushed to the scene to searched for Abba.

Witnesses reported that the suspect was initially spotted with a bag and cutlass and was questioned by mob.

Umar, who had joined the search team, recounted how he encountered Suleiman and inquired about a missing boy.

Suspicions fell upon the Hausa man, saying he was not responsible but his co conspirator who he refused to mentioned his name.

When questioned about the abducted child, he said that the boy had already been released.

He also confessed to being part of the kidnappers groups, involving ten people, including two females adding that their operations appeared to be concentrated mainly within the Lapai environment.

The incident has sparked concerns among people regarding the recent cases of kidnapping in Lapai.

Fueled by frustration, an angry mob took matters into their own hands, resulting in the gruesome lynching and burning of the suspected kidnapper.

This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the deep anxieties in peoples mind. this has underscores the urgent need for local authorities to take decisive action to address the escalating threat of child abductions in Lapai.

Reacting to the incident, the Police Divisional Officer (DPO) in Lapai Musa Yusuf, said that the mobs had already set ablaze the suspect ablaze before police personnel arrived the scene.
