As part of activities marking the 2023 World Pharmacists Day Celebration, the Speaker, Niger State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abdulmalik Muhammed Sarkin Daji, joined members of the association on solidarity road walk from Assembly complex to General Hospital,Minna.

Speaking to journalists shortly after his arrival at the General Hospital premises,the Speaker Niger State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Abdulmalik Muhammed Sarkin Daji assured pharmaceutical society of Nigeria,Niger State Chapter of legislative partnership at all times.

Hon. Sarkin Daji who congratulated the society for the celebration of 2023 World Pharmacists Day with the theme,”Pharmacy Strengthening Health Systems,” pledge for the continued synergy between the assembly and the Pharmacists in the state.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Niger State Chapter, Pharmacist Yakubu Maji Musa, appreciated the Speaker and Members of the Niger State House of Assembly for finding time to participate in the road walk.

The Chairman used the opportunity to thanked the 10th assembly for their unflinching support and assured Nigerlites of better package in the State

NIGER STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY TO PARTNER NGOs on GIRL CHILD EDUCATION

The Deputy Speaker, Niger State House of Assembly, Hon. Afiniki Eunice Dauda has disclosed that Niger State House of Assembly will partner with NGOs on girl child education.

She made the disclosure when she received the Chief Executive Officer and Founder of Maya Care Foundation in her office at the Assembly Complex in Minna.

LINATV Correspondent Harajana Umar Ragada reported that Hon.Afiniki assured the CEO of Maya Care Foundation and her team of the 10th Assembly’s Legislative Support and collaboration in the areas of improving Girl Child Education and out-of-school Children in the State.

In her remarks, the CEO and Founder of Maya Care Foundation, Hajiya, Safiya Abdulmumuni, Congratulated the Deputy Speaker and Members of the 10th Assembly for their successful inauguration and used the opportunity to inform the Deputy Speaker that Maya Care Foundation is a non-governmental organization that is particular about Children and out of school Children especially, girls.

The Founder further explained that their major focus is to pick them up from the street and send them back to school by giving them quality Education, Conducive environment and learning materials.

She also said that the foundation has been to some states in Nigeria, adding that the foundation has also carried out a Women empowerment program as well as supporting a school in Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State.

She further stated that the foundation is having an annual Programme every September when schools resume and this particular year they would be holding it in Niger State.

Niger State Government Signed Contracts for the Purchase of 200 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Buses

Niger State Government has signed an agreement with four different contracting firms for the purchase of 200 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses.

Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago while supervising the signing of the contract said the purchase of the 200 buses is in fulfilment of his promise to provide free transportation for pupils and students in the state.

Governor Umaru Bago said the first 100 Buses will be deployed to serve commuters between Abuja and Suleja, 50 to be used in Minna, the state capital, while the remaining 50 Buses will be spread across other Local Government areas,adding that an additional 300 Buses will be purchased next year.

Bago further noted that the transportation fares will be subsidized for all civil servants,both inter and intra-state services.

The governor who described the initiative as a way of reducing hardship faced by citizens due to fuel subsidy removal,said the project is also to bring a revolution in the transportation system and reduce the rate of accidents on roads.

He further stated that in the next four years, the State intends to purchase 1,000 CNG buses and electric motorcycles to reduce the pollution caused by the fuel engine motorcycles.

The governor however enjoined the contractors to deliver the buses according to the specifications.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Hajiya Hadiza Idris Kuta revealed that the State Government is to purchase the Buses at N7 billion.

Representative of Nationwide Unity Transport Limited, Mohammed Bawa who spoke on behalf of other contractors, disclosed that the 200 high-capacity buses will be of great quality and will come with a warranty of two years while availability of spare parts will be for the next 10 years.

He assured Nigerlites that all contractors will stick to contract agreement.

The four contracting firms are Topdesk International, Nationwide Unity Transport Limited, Afrobase Services Limited and Musako Motors and Transportation Nigeria Limited.

The four companies are to provide fifty Buses each and the delivery is expected to be completed in 12 weeks.

Niger state Government has reaffirmed it’s commitment to construct 250km intra city roads in Minna, Bida, Suleja & Kontagora.

Governor Mohammad Umaru Bago gave the assurance during the ground breaking for the construction of 44km dual carriage way Bida ring road,on Friday.

Governor Umaru Bago disclosed that the Bida ring road project will increase economic activities in the area,create employment which is amongst his urban renewal programs aimed at providing world class infrastructure across the state and attract investment partners.

Commissioner for works and infrastructure Development, Suleiman Umar said the the Ministry will ensure effective supervision and monitoring of the project,

Umar further stated that the project will open up the town,decongest traffic and improve economic activities in the environment.

Earlier,the Etsu Nupe,and Chairman,Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers,Alhaji(Dr) Yahaya Abubakar, represented by the Galadiman Nupe,Alhaji Aliyu DanJuma commended the Governor for embarking on a project that has a direct bearing on the lives of the people .

Also speaking,the Managing Director, Arab contractors, Engr. Mohammad El-Edarous assured the government of quality job and timely completion of the project.

NIGER ASSEMBLY INAUGURATES HOUSE STANDING COMMITTEE ON SPORTS DEVELOPMENT

In a bid to strengthen sports development in Niger State, the Niger State House of Assembly has taken a significant step by inaugurating a House Standing Committee specifically dedicated to promoting sports activities within the state.

This move comes as a result of the assembly’s recognition of the vital role that sports play in fostering unity, talent development, and overall socio-economic growth.

Lina TV House of Assembly correspondent Harajana Umar Ragada reports that the ceremony, took place at the State House of Assembly complex on Tuesday 12th September 2023.

The event was presided over by the Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Barr. Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin Daji, who emphasized the importance of sports in driving socio-economic development and improving the lives of Niger State residents.

He also called on members of the committee to pay attention to sports as it is an investment but it is not given the desired attention. Therefore, Niger State miss out participating in sporting activities.

The Honourable commissioner for sports who was represented by the Special Adviser on Sports, Abdullahi A. Suleiman reiterated that the Ministry is open for synergy to make Niger State Number one in terms of sports development.

Members of the committee include Hon. Ndagi Zakari (Chairman), Hon. Muhd Garba Agwara (Vice Chairman), Hon. Umar Nasir Paiko (Member), Hon. Ahmad Yahaya Abubakar (Member), Hon. Isah Abdullahi (Member), Hon.Aliyu Shehi Wushishi (Member), and Comrade John Musa (Committee Clerk).

The committee Chairman Honorable Ndagi Zakari stated that their mandate includes conducting a comprehensive assessment of existing sports facilities, collaborating with relevant government agencies, and formulating strategies to attract investments in sports infrastructure, adding that they plan to organize frequent grassroots sporting events.

NIGER ASSEMBLY URGES EXECUTIVE TO ESTABLISH A SPECIAL HOSPITAL FACILITY FOR BANDITRY AND KIDNAPPING VICTIMS

Niger State House of Assembly has recently passed a significant motion, calling on the executive arm of the government to establish or designate a special hospital facility specifically dedicated to the treatment of victims of banditry and kidnapping in Niger State.

This motion comes as a response to the escalating incidences of banditry and kidnapping in the state, with a need for dedicated medical assistance for the victims.

The motion was moved by the Honourable member representing Munya constituency Hon. Joseph Haruna Sdzuda who expressed grave concern about the increasing rate of banditry and kidnapping incidents in the state, resulting in injuries and trauma for the victims.

He highlighted the necessity of providing specialized medical care to ensure proper treatment, rehabilitation, and psychological support for all victims affected by these crimes.

Furthermore, the establishment of this hospital facility will not only focus on physical healing but also place emphasis on the mental and emotional well-being of the victims. It will have dedicated rehabilitation programs, counseling services, and support groups to ensure comprehensive care for all individuals affected by these heinous crimes.

The Niger State House of Assembly firmly believes that the proposed special hospital facility will play a vital role in addressing the immediate medical needs of victims and contribute towards their overall recovery and reintegration into society. It will also send a strong message to bandits and kidnappers that the government is committed to protecting the citizens and will leave no stone unturned in ensuring their well-being.

The motion, which garnered unanimous support from all members of the assembly, will now be forwarded to the executive arm of government for consideration and necessary actions.

Senator Sani Bello’s visit was to congratulate the Minister on his new role as the official Image Maker of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Senator Sani Bello while expressing unwavering confidence in the ability of Alhaji Mohammed Idris in carrying out the responsibilities of his new office as well as meeting the high expectations of Nigerians, harped on the need to use his wealth of experience in changing the narrative especially in the dissemination of information

On the administration’s agenda, Senator Sani Bello underscored the crucial role that the Ministry of Information and National Orientation will play towards ensuring that the government succeeds.

He said “This Ministry holds immense importance; the President has already laid out the agenda. It is now the responsibility of the Ministry to explain the agenda to the Nigerian populace”

Accusing Vice-President Kashim Shettima of APC Double Nomination

The Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Abuja has struck out the suit filed by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) accusing Vice-President Kashim Shettima of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of double nomination in the 2023 general elections.

The Chairman of the panel, Justice Haruna Tsammani, who read the lead judgement, held that an invalid nomination or double nomination did not qualify as a ground for disqualification in respect of the presidential election as provided in sections 131 and 137 of the constitution.

He also held that Mr Ibrahim Masari, who was nominated as a placeholder by the APC (for the position of the Vice President), was not a necessary party to the petition because he was neither a candidate nor did he win the election.

GOVERNOR UMARU BAGO WARNS STANDING COMMITTEES NOT TO SHARE CASH AS PALLIATIVE

Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago has warned the Standing Committees in all the 25 Local Government areas not to share money as palliative to the people.

The Governor in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, said the money given to all the local government councils is to be used to procure grains and other food items not to be shared.

He said the choice of food items to be procured is to be determined by the stakeholders in each of the local government areas in addition to the rice and maize that will have been provided.

The Governor emphasized that any standing committee that shares cash will be sanctioned.

Governor Umaru Bago has rolled out some modalities for the distribution of fuel subsidy palliatives which will last for three days from tomorrow the 6th of September, 2023.

He made the call while receiving the executive of the Nigeria Union of journalists (NUJ) Niger state chapter led by the chairman Abu Nmadu at the government house.

The Governor expressed his gratitude and appreciation to journalists for reporting activities of the state, and encouraged them to provide wider coverage of the activities of the present administration
Speaking further the Governor noted the bad deplorable state of government owned media houses and said his administration will change the narrative.
Highlighting the state of Niger state Television (NSTV) the governor said the station will be rebranded and privatized to compete with other private television

NUJ chairman Abu Nmodu in his response, applauded the governor for his support in carrying journalists along and also appealed to the governor to include career civil servants who are journalists and are qualified to be permanent secretaries be considered for the position
