Wife of Nigeria’s President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has advised women to be ready to break barriers, so as to unleash their full potential.

Mrs Tinubu gave the advice in Lagos, while declaring open the 23rd National Women’s Conference, organised by the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO), with the theme, ”Unleash Your Potential”.

She said women have the power to shape the future, be leaders, innovators, caregivers and agents of positive change.

”But to unleash our potential fully, we must continue to break down barriers that limit our progress, challenge stereotypes, and foster an environment of equal opportunity for all.

”Education, healthcare, economic empowerment, and gender equity are essential pillars that will enable us to unleash our potential.

Tinubu, who revived COWLSO, when her husband was Lagos State Governor, praised the doggedness of women who had ensured the sustenance of the ideals of the committee.

She said that women have much potential and they need to defy the odds to contribute to national development.

The president’s wife said that women face more challenges in various endeavours, hence, urged them to be ready to seek help if they run into difficulty while working on their goals.

The Chairperson of COWLSO, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, urged women to think outside the box and be relevant in the society.

As electorates in Bayelsa, Imo and Kogi States gear up for governorship elections, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmoud Yakubu has said the results of the November 11 governorship elections in the three states would be transmitted electronically.

Prof. Yakubu made the clarification over the weekend during his visit to Lokoja, Kogi State capital where he monitored Saturday’s mock election and also assessed the commission’s level of preparedness ahead of the election.

It should be recalled that the Bayelsa State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Ofiong Efanga, had recently said the commission would adopt manual mode of transmission of the governorship election results.

According to him “the governorship election in the three states would be conducted in line with the Electoral Act.

“The method is as provided by law – electronic accreditation, electronic upload of results on the INEC Results Viewing (IReV) portal, and that is why we are doing this mock.

“So, please, disregard whatever was reported about what the REC was said to have said in Bayelsa and that is going to be the procedure. And it is for that reason that I will advise you also for those who have registered on the IReV portal, in the next two hours or so, they should go to the IReV portal, they see the result of the mock from all the three states; we are uploading, as we have done in previous elections.”

Yakubu further advised the Electoral Officers (EOs) in the States to follow the standard template for logistics deployment at Registration Area Centres (RACs), as well as work with security agencies, for the election to commence in Polling Units (PUs) at 8.30 a.m.

Accordingly, he said “on election day, as you move to the super RACs or the RAC centres, you will then move to the polling units.”

As part of plans to effectively pave way for the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to utilize the territory internally generated revenue (IGR) for the development of the nation’s capital, President Bola Tinubu has pulled the FCTA out of the Treasury Single Account (TSA).

It should be noted that, the TSA, a Federal Government policy that requires all government revenue to be deposited into a single account, was introduced in 2015 to improve transparency and accountability in government finances.

In line with the TSA, all revenue receipts, and all payments by government, go through a Consolidated Revenue Account, CRA, at the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.

The action according to President Tinubu would allow the FCTA under the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike to use the territory’s Internally Generated Revenue IGR for the development of the nation’s capital.

Speaking during a news conference on Friday, Wike also disclosed that the President has approved the creation of the FCT Civil Service Commission.

This he said would allow the progression of staff of the FCT Administration.

Findings have it that, the removal of the FCTA from the TSA as well as the creation of the nation’s capital Civil Service Commission, would give Wike additional powers as a Minister.

Lina TV gathered that Civil servants in the territory had complained of the effects of the absence of such Commission for their career progression.

NIGER ASSEMBLY PASSES N230,300 BILLION SUPPLEMENTARY BUDGET

Niger State House of Assembly has expressly passed into law a supplementary budget of N230,300 billion for the 2023 appropriation bill.

The Speaker, Barrister Abdulmalik Sarkin Daji while passing the bill said the supplementary budget is to enable the government to fund critical projects that will stimulate growth and development of the entire economy.

He stated that the supplementary budget was necessitated by expected additional inflow from UBA of one hundred and eighty-seven billion naira, Federal Government infrastructural grant of forty-two billion naira and NCNI series three bonds of one point three billion.

According to him, the capital expenditure comprised over N211 billion while the recurrent expenditure is over N19 billion.

Barrister Sarkin Daji said the budget affected personnel, overhead and capital expenditure adding that all the capital projects are viable and are in line with the priority of the government.

Earlier, the speaker announced an emergency sitting of the house on Tuesday which was recalled back from recess in which the house unanimously agreed to refer the bill to the committee on appropriation for further scrutiny.

The passage of the supplement budget is coming barely after about one month of releasing 25% to many contractors worth billions of naira in Niger state.

CSU Certificate Saga: ‘Remove Tinubu now’- APC Chieftain tells ECOWAS, NASS Says, his position no longer tenable

Following the alleged certificate forgery saga making the rounds, a former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has called on the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to sack President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as its chairman.

While making the call in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday, Frank claimed President Tinubu lost legitimacy following discovery that he forged the Chicago State University (CSU) certificate he filed with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to contest the 2023 presidential election in Nigeria.

According to Frank, “If ECOWAS must remain relevant and retain its credibility and respect among member states, especially in dealing with military junta now spreading fast like a pandemic across the sub-Region it must act fast to protect its integrity.”

He equally called on past and present Presidents of member-states of ECOWAS to prevail on the sub-regional body to do the right thing by appointing another chairman in acting capacity pending ratification during the next Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS.

He said failure to act timeously would put the regional body in a lame duck position where all decisions reached during the tenure of Tinubu would not be respected and, therefore, null and void.

He called on the leadership of the military juntas in Burkina Faso, Guinea, Mali and Niger Republic not to have any dealings, discussion or negotiation with the Tinubu-led ECOWAS until the President is removed as its chairman.

He urged the authorities of ECOWAS not to be deceived by the appointment and secondment of broadcast journalist and Channels Television reporter, Mrs Linda Nwabuwa Akhigbe, to serve as Communications Advisor to the ECOWAS Commission President, Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, in Abuja.

“This is a Greek gift, therefore, the Commission should beware,” he said.

He alleged that the Tinubu administration in one breath persecutes the media with recent NBC’s last warning letter to ARISE Television and on the other hand, it bribes them with generous appointments and paid advertisements as recently corroborated by former Governor Nyesom Wike who is the Minister of FCT.

He called on the National Assembly to defend the nation’s constitution, democracy and rule of law by urgently commencing impeachment proceedings against Tinubu over alleged gross violation of the constitution.

He insisted that the National Assembly cannot afford to stay aloof while the nation was crumbling under illegalities and breach of the constitution committed by Tinubu as contained in the sworn deposition by the CSU authorities.

He said: “The National Assembly, like Nero, cannot afford to fiddle while Rome (Nigeria) burns, otherwise they would become guilty of conspiracy of silence and willing accomplices to the unraveling of democracy in Nigeria.

“A breach of the Constitution by a sitting President is an impeachable offence. We are calling on the National Assembly, the Senate and House of Representatives, to wake up and defend the Constitution.

“This is the time for them to uphold the law and constitution of the land. This is the time they must display patriotism irrespective of party affiliation by urgently commencing impeachment proceedings against the President.

“This is not all about party membership. It’s all about sustaining our democracy and ensuring peace, security and development of the country.

“Nigerians expect them to exercise their constitutional powers to do the right thing if they are truly the elected representatives of the people.

“Otherwise, Tinubu’s stay in office will continue to bring national disgrace and embarrassment to Nigerians both home and abroad and equally chase away foreign investors from doing business in Nigeria because no foreign investor will come to Nigeria to invest while it remains under a President tainted with legitimacy.“

He insisted that the President’s forgery saga was already making life difficult and creating hard times for Nigerians abroad who are seeking for jobs as their certificates are now being subjected to thorough scrutiny to ensure they are not fake.

The Bayelsa State-born political activist also called on the Supreme Court of Nigeria to handle the presidential election petition appeal before it with the fear of God and national interest in order to safeguard the nation’s democracy.

He said: “We believe that the Supreme Court must not be biased and must do everything to protect our democracy. The world is watching to see if they will uphold the principles of true justice in the manner they will handle this case of
perjury or lying under oath by Tinubu

According to him, the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, recently said the judiciary does not base its decisions on sentiment or public opinion in deciding cases but on the constitution.

“Several vitriolic attacks are regularly heaped on the judiciary; it is, however, crystal clear that public opinions, no matter how serious or weighty it might be, cannot override or supersede the constitution of the country which we apply in deciding each case,” the CJN said after swearing in 23 newly-appointed judges of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Frank added: “We now have a clear case of breach of the Constitution by a President who submitted a forged certificate to INEC contrary to Section 137 (1)(j) of the Constitution which stipulates that: ‘A person shall not be qualified for election to the office of President if – he has presented a forged certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission.’

“We expect the CJN and other Supreme Court Justices to courageously uphold the constitution by ensuring that a confirmed lawbreaker is not retained as the President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.”

NIGER STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY RECIEVE’S 2023 SUPPLEMENTARY APPROPRIATION BILL.

The Executive Arm of the Niger State Government, has sent the 2023 Supplementary Appropriation Bill to the State House of Assembly for Consideration and passage into law.

The Speaker of the House Rt. Hon. Abdulmalik Muhammad Sarkin Daji announced this at an emergency sitting of the House which was recalled back from its recess today.

He appealed to his colleagues to contribute to the debate for early consideration of the Bill and quick passage into law, in order to consolidate on the gains recorded in the State so far .

The House unanimously agreed to, after a voice vote refered the bill to the committee on appropriation for further legislative scrutiny.

Niger state house of assembly lawmakers have reconvened on an emergency sitting 3 weeks after going on recess.

The lawmakers who are on a 6 weeks recess, called on an emergency sitting to able them perform their legislative duty.

The leader of the house, Idris Musa Vatsa, member representing Lapai constituency during the plenary presented A bill for a law to provide for supplementary appropriation, 2023.

The bill passed first and second reading at the floor of the house and was subsiquently referred to house committee on finance for further legislative scrutiny.

Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State has held several international meetings during his visit to the United Nations with global figures such as the Secretary-Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, Amina Jane Mohammed, Ambassador Lot Peter Egopija, Consular General of Nigeria High Commission in New York, and Prof. Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.

The meeting was aimed at showcasing the abundant potential of the State to have positive collaborations, seeking partnership as it affects agricultural rejuvenation, education, energy, healthcare and many other spheres of the economy.

Governor Umar Bago explained that his administration will remain committed to ensuring that Niger state would be one the most important partners in Nigeria.

Niger State Government has commended members of LLB class of 2009 for celebrating the Speaker of 10th Niger State House of Assembly,Hon.Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin Daji who is also LLB class of 2009 of Usman Danfodio University,Sokoto.

Deputy Governor,Comrade Yakubu Garba,who made the commendation said Hon.Sarkin Daji is who one of the good ambassadors of LLB Class of 2009,described the Speaker as one of the most successful politicians in Niger State.

Comrade Garba noted that the Hon.Abdulmalik was one time Council Chairman of Mariga Local Government Area,Commissioner and presently member of Niger State House of Assembly, who also doubles as the Speaker of the House.

He urged the Speaker to continue with the good job he has been doing for the people of the State and assured him of the Executive Arm of Government’s unflinching support to the Legislative Arm for the socio-economic development of the State.

Earlier,the Speaker, Niger State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abdulmalik Muhammed Sarkin Daji has commended LLB Class of 2009 of Usman Danfodiyo University, Sokoto for identifying and felicitating with him on his emergence as the Speaker of the 10th Assembly.

The Speaker appreciated his colleagues for finding time to come to Minna.

Hon.Malik had lauded his colleagues too for the successes they have recorded in there various places of work and prayed for the Almighty Allah guidance in their endeavours

National Universities Commission Granted Approval for the Take Off of Niger State University of Education as the 270th University in the country

The National Universities Commission(NUC), has approved the takeoff of Niger State University of Education, which is the 270th University in the country.

The approval letter was formally presented to Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago by the Acting Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), at the Commission’s Head Office in Abuja.

Shortly after receiving the letter of approval, Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago expressed gratitude to the NUC for the reactivation and approval of a process that started over a decade ago.

The Governor observed that there is a deficit in Educational facilities hence, his administration is desirous of making Niger State “the Massachusett of Nigeria”.

Bago assured that funding the University will not be a problem as an Education Trust Fund law is already in place mandating 1% of every State Government contract to go into the Trust Fund.

Governor Umaru Bago also used the opportunity to appeal to the NUC to expedite the approval of Medicine in the Ibrahim Babangida University Lapai for the full take-off of Medical courses in the institution.

The governor also said that he is confident that the upgrade of the Federal College of Education Kontagora to a University of Education signed by the Buhari administration will soon come to fruition.

Worried by the volume of graduates without vocational skills despite the limitless opportunities for white-collar jobs, the Governor stressed that his administration will change the narrative by establishing a hub for vocational training

The Acting Executive Secretary (E.S), of NUC, Mr Chris Mayaki congratulated the Niger State Government under the leadership of Governor Umaru Bago for revalidating and completing the process of establishing the State University of Education.

While pledging the full support of the NUC, the Acting E.S called on the State Government to utilize the advisory role of the Commission for professional and technical advice needed for sustainable funding and operation of the University

The idea of converting the State College of Education to the University of Education was conceived by the Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu Administration in 2013, it was recognised as a duly established University in the Nigerian University System by the NUC on the 8 of May 2015.

However, the present administration led by Umaru Bago, on the 20th of August 2023 wrote for the revalidation of the process and completed it by presenting all relevant documents.

The State University of Education is now enlisted as the 270th University in Nigeria with effect from 28th September 2023. And this makes it the 2nd State Owned University.
