Slain soldiers for burial today, military demands killers’ capture

The Nigerian Army says soldiers killed in the Okuama community in Delta State are to be buried today (Wednesday), at the National Cemetery, Abuja.

This was disclosed in a statement posted on the Nigerian Army’s X handle on Tuesday, adding that the burial will be held by 3 pm.

President Bola Tinubu is billed to be the Special Guest of Honour at the event.

At least 17 military personnel were killed by irate youths during a communal clash over a land dispute in Bomadi and Okuoma communities in the state.

While the Defence Headquarters vowed that there would be injurious consequences, it released the names of the Army personnel who were killed during a peace mission to Okuama.

Meanwhile, Tinubu and the Senate ordered the military to apprehend the killers of the military men.

In carrying out the order, it was gathered on Sunday that the military combed the warring communities and arrested a lot of persons, including three prime suspects, as the President declared that the Defence Headquarters and the Defence Chief had full authority to bring anybody responsible to justice.

Also, retired army generals and civil society organisations lambasted the killers of the soldiers and called for their apprehension and speedy prosecution in order to serve as a deterrent to other criminal elements.

On Tuesday in Abuja, the immediate-past Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor (retd.), called for further analysis and conversations over the killings of the soldiers.

Speaking during the Chief of Defence Staff Joint Task Force Commanders Conference in Abuja on Tuesday, Irabor said there was no justification for the gruesome manner in which the military personnel were killed.

Niger State Government has approves of 25 billion Naira for the payment of gratuity of pensioners in the state,
Commissioned 200 CNG buses among others as part of celebrations to mark his one year in office.

Farmer Governor Umaru Bago while commissioning the 200 CNG Buses, 50 security vehicles, 50 calibrated trucks for refuse disposal and 50 transformers at the trade fair complex Minna to mark his first anniversary in office, disclosed that the government has approved of 25 billion Naira for the payment of pensioners gratitude, both state and local government, renovation and reconstruction of the state secretariat, construction of a new judiciary complex at the three arm zone.

The farmer Governor further explained that Students, health workers and Security personnel will enjoy free transportation,while civil servants will pay a discounted fee.
Explaining that CNG buses Gass refill will not be a problem as the State Government has made interim arrangements for refilling of gas pending the establishment of refilling plants across the State in collaboration with NNPC.

The farmer Governor, who said his Government remains committed to the welfare of the citizenry also announced the approval of promotion of any civil servant due for it with immediate effect.

The farmer Governor attributed the success of his administration so far to the team work between all the arms of government and called for a continuous harmonious working relationship.

Speaking at the occasion, the Secretary to the State Government, Alh. Abubakar Usman said the inauguration of the vehicles will help ease Nigerlites suffering in terms of transportation and also improve economic activities in the state.

Bothe lectures spoke extensively on the impact of the Bago led administration across all sectors of the economy adding that his Infrastructural policies have been second to none since the creation of the state.

Meanwhile, in another development, Niger State Governor, farmer Mohammed Umaru Bago has disclosed that plans are on for the Dangote Group of Companies to establish one of the biggest Rice Mills for 500,000 metric tons of paddy rice between Wushishi and Bida Local Government Areas.

Farmer Governor Bago said he discussed with the President of the Dangote Group of Companies, Alh. Aliko Dangote in Lagos, also revealed that the State will soon take delivery of 500 of 40ft of empty containers from the business mogul.

The farmer Governor used the opportunity to appreciate the cordial relationship between the executive and other arms of government, pointing out that it has contributed immensely to the successes achieved.

Farmer Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State has stressed his administration’s determination to continue to protect the rights of the children.

The farmer Governor in a message by his Chief Press Secretary Bologi Ibrahim, to the Children as they celebrate this year’s Children’s Day, said it is duty bound for the government to protect children from any form of abuse and sufferings.

He further stated that it is necessary to also provide the children with basic needs of life such as shelter, food, health and education, as they are priceless gifts from God.

The farmer Governor, who expressed concern over the level at which children are involved in various forms of social vices, maintained that guardians and parents must rise to the task of inculcating good morals in their wards and children.

While acknowledging the negative impact of insecurity on the Children in the State, the farmer Governor said all hands must be on deck to safeguard the children against activities of terrorists and ensure that they do not take up to crime.

He also assured that his administration will not relent in initiating various programmes that would propel children to greatness.

NIGER EDUCATION COMMISSIONER CHARGES PRINCIPALS,HEAD TEACHERS ON DUE DILIGENCE; RECEIVES ROYAL BLESSINGS

Niger State Commissioner of Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Hadiza Asabe Mohammed has charged Public School Principals and Head Teachers on proactiveness and discipline in managing the activities of their various Schools.

She gave the charge in Bida yesterday, during an interactive session with all the Public School Principals and Head Teachers in Zone (A) of the State.

The Commissioner said the interaction was to intimate the School Managers on the yearnings and aspirations of the Government of RT. Hon. Umaru Mohammad Bago to changing the narratives in the Education sector.

The Commissioner further informed that the Ministry is working round the clock to provide a conducive environment for learners and Teachers for a better quality education in the State, leveraging on the world Bank’s AGILE intervention which will provide 54 well equipped brand new mega Schools across the State.

Dr. Hadiza used the occasion to announce that very soon a competency Examination will be conducted for all Principals, Head Teachers and other Teachers to sanitize the education system, thus paving way for new recruitment of professionals Teachers to cater for the shortage in Schools.

According to her, the State Governor is willing to improve on the wages and welfare of the Teachers hence the need for them to put in their best in providing quality education to the Students.

The Commissioner observed that the Issues of lack of promotion implementation for Teachers, training and retraining among others would be addressed soonest, assuring that the government will from next year start giving monthly impress to all Principals to cushion the effects of some of the things lacking in their Schools, thus they should desist from extorting money from Students and Parents.

In his goodwill message, the Chairman Bida Local Government council, Hon. Bala Shaba who was represented by the Council Secretary, Hon. Mohammad Danjuma Idris commended the Governor for appointing a professional as the Education Commissioner, positing that the commissioner has so far exhibited high level of professionalism especially by interacting with School managers, the first of its kind.

After the interface with the Principals and Head Teachers, the Commissioner and her entourage proceeded to the Emirs Palace to receive royal blessings from the Etsu Nupe, Alh. Yahaya Abubakar, the chairman Niger State Council of traditional rulers.

The Commissioner informed the monarch that the State Government under the leadership of the Executive Governor, RT. Hon. Umaru Mohammad Bago is taking stringent measures in changing the narratives in the Education sector, hence the need to interact with Principals and Head Teachers who are the managers of Schools.

In his response the Monarch lauded the efforts of the Governor towards improving the Standards of Education in the State.

While congratulating the Commissioner on her well deserved appointment, the Monarch praised her foresight for galvanizing the School managers and prayed for her success throughout her tenure.

UPDATE ON THE SUSPENSION OF ELECTION IN SOME LOCATIONS IN KOGI STATE

Following the suspension of elections in nine Wards in Kogi State, INEC says it also received reports of similar and other incidents in Adavi (5 Polling Units in Okunchi/Ozuri/Onieka Ward), Ajaokuta (5 Polling Units in Adogo Ward), Okehi (1 Polling Unit in Eika/Ohizenyi Ward) and Okene (5 Polling Units in Obehira Uvete Ward). Results from the affected Polling Units have been accounted for in Form EC40G for the four LGAs.

However, in the case of Ogori/Magongo LGA, only the result of Oshobane Ward II with eight Polling Units and 2,264 registered voters has been collated. Election in the other nine Wards (Eni, Okibo, Okesi, Ileteju, Aiyeromi, Ugugu, Obinoyin, Obatgben and Oturu) involving 59 Polling Units and 15,136 registered voters remain suspended. In line with Section 24(3) of the Electoral Act 2022 and Clause 59 of INEC Regulations and Guidelines on the Conduct of Elections 2022, fresh election will be held on Saturday 18thNovember 2023 in the affected Polling Units.

The decision to hold fresh elections is subject to the Returning Officer’s determination of the application of the Margin of Lead Principle. However, this decision is without prejudice to our avowed commitment to follow the audit trail of personnel and materials to ascertain those who may have been complicit in undermining the process and apply appropriate sanctions where necessary.

The Speaker Niger State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abdulmalik Muhammed Sarkin Daji has commended Bida Old Student Association (BOSA) class of 1996 for identifying with one their own.

Bar. Sarkin Daji made these assertion during a civic reception in honour of his Brother, Professor Bashir Danlami Sarkindaji who was among the newly promoted professor’s from Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, Niger State Which took place at Justice Idris Legbo Kutigi International Conference Center Minna.

Delivering his Goodwill message, the Speaker appreciated and commended the old students of BOSA Class of 1996 for their foresight in organizing the event and honouring his brother who is an old student and a product of the College Class of 1996.

He used the opportunity to Congratulate the celebrant, Prof. Bashir Danlami Sarkindaji for his achievements and confirmation of his Professorship by IBBU Lapai, Niger State.

Niger State Government has restated its commitment to boost food production in the State through the establishment of a Food Processing Company.

The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Abubakar Usman disclosed this at the stakeholders meeting on Bobi Grazing Reserve held in his Office.

Alhaji Usman revealed that the setting up of the Company would unlock the immense potential of the Livestock industry, attract investments, and promote job creation in the State.

According to the SSG, “the Food Processing Company will aggregate; process and package farm produce to create business activities, boost farming and improve food security”.

He further explained that the present administration’s commitment to Agriculture is very strategic knowing fully that the sector is the only sure way for food security, employment generation, and raw materials for industrialization, hence the need for the Government to reach out to every opportunity in order to achieve the set objectives and goals.

The SSG reiterated that the Government is committed to actualizing Bobi Grazing Reserve located in Mariga and Mashegu Local Government Areas of the State despite Bandits incursion.

Alhaji Usman assured the Government’s commitment and determination to put in place high-level security measures that will safeguard the Reserve and private sector investments.

The SSG received updates from the Consultant of the Reserve who is also the Emir of Muri, Alhaji Abbas Tafida, Officials from CBN, Friesland Campina Wamco, Chi Limited, Hail Consortium, Neon Dairies Plc, and Iris Dairies.
